Modern half red morroco over marbled boards. Hard cover. Gilt title and decorations. Matching marbled end papers. Near fine. Minor shelf wear. Edges dust dulled. Internally mildly age darkened. A very nice copy in an attractive sturdy binding. Provenance: From the Library of Fr. Thomas Simeon Flynn OP, with his initials (T.S.F.) in gilt at the foot of the spine. Fr. Flynn was ordained a priest in 1969 and spent much of his life in historical research, with two great interests: Irish Dominican history, and the history of Christianity in Iran. His two most important publications are ‘The Irish Dominicans, 1536-1641’ (Dublin, 1993) and ‘The Western Christian Presence in the Russias and Qajar Persia, c.1760 – 1870’ (Leiden, 2017). He also contributed some thirty articles to the Dictionary of Irish Biography. Fr. Flynn died in 2026.
