Elaborate blind decorations. Part 1, Vol.2: Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Gilt title on spine. ‘Fredricton Library’ in gilt on spine / Part 2: Original cloth with gilt title on spine. Very good condition. All volumes rubbed and bumped. Edges and end papers dust dulled. Name of previous owner on front free end paper of volume 1. Front hinge of volume 1 cracked. Small corner of front free end paper volume 1 missing. Map in volume 1 glued to title page (upside down) causing small damages and glue stains on title page, see images. All volumes internally clean. Early editions of Tocqueville’s Democracy in America Parts 1 and 2 were published in two volumes (four volumes in total). In later editions they were published in two volumes. The two volumes of Part 1 of 1838 and the one volume of Part 2 of 1876 form the complete text of the book.
