Rare Irish Hand Carved Bog Oak Book Slide. The adjustable base with allround Laurel Leaf decoration and a central split carving depicting a view of a Church or Abbey (Muckross Abbey, Killarney?). Two hinged folding bookends, one carved depicting an Irish Celtic Cross, the other as an Irish Harp surrounded by shamrocks.

Head and tail of spine with minor material losses (see images). Leather binding dried out and a little brittle. Binding sound. Edges and end papers dust dulled. Name of previous owner, dated 1602. Stamp on title page (see image). Some traces of old woodworm, mainly on margins, rarely affecting text. Internally mildly age darkened, but very clean. A nice copy.
