Very good condition, boards, binding and text firm and clean, very minor signs of wear to dustjacket edges. The Seven Caves is a detailed accounting of the “digs” made by the author in the seven caves of the Near East area between 1939 and 1956. Here were caves occupied when European man made his appearance on the scene, in a period when the ice sheet began its retreat and Neolithic hunters used weapons comparable to those used for centuries to come, had domesticated some animals, and learned fully the use of fire, the need of clothing, the value of shelter. There is an immense amount about the land and the people, as the Coons went from Tangier and the High Cave, to Bisitun in Iran, to the Belt Cave and the Caspian Shore, to Hoty, one of the great finds of the Middle East, and Afghanistan, to Syrian desert and to the Heifer’s Outwash en route to Palmyra.
