Barker, George. Eros in Dogma. First Edition. London, Faber and Faber, 1944. 14.5cm x 22.5cm. 61 pages. Original hardcover. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear.

George Granville Barker (26 February 1913 – 27 October 1991) was an English poet. He identified with the New Apocalyptics movement, which reacted against 1930’s realism with mythical and surrealist themes. Barker had a long liaison with the writer Elizabeth Smart and the affair is the subject of both her well-known book ‘By Grand Central Station I Sat Down And Wept’ and his 1950 novel ‘The Dead Seagull’.

This collection of poems was published by T.S. Eliot, who worked at Faber and Faber at the time. The collection includes Barker’s ‘Secular and Sacred Elegies’ and his three ‘Cycles of Love Poems.’
