Aubrey, Brief Lives.
Aubrey, John. Brief Lives. A selection based upon existing contemporary portraits edited by Richard Barber. London, The Folio Society, 1996. 25.1cm x 16.2cm. 324 pages. Original Hardcover with dustjacket with Slipcase. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. John Aubrey (1626 – 1695) made a collection of notes, anecdotes and gossip about his contemporaries which are gathered together under the title Brief Lives. He was friendly with many of the English scientists of the day including many of the earliest members of the Royal Society. He gives a lively, and not necessarily accurate, account of some of the mathematicians in our archive. (history.mcs.)
