Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Namesticker of preowner on endpaper. Rare ! M.Jesse Hoare describes, rather in the style of the late Somerville and Ross, the twilight world of the crumbling Anglo-Irish ascendancy, from the twenties into the middle of the century. Although she writes with wit about many amusing incidents she also deals movingly with certain tragic occurences. She left Carrigrohane Castle, Cork as a young bride and, after the premature death of her husband, moved to another ancestral home Glenanore House near Fermoy, occupied by an elderly relative who had lived there all his life cut off from the outside world> Glenanore House and its atmosphere is described vividly; also the many strange, sometimes almost incredible, but always amusing characters she met there.
