Complete. Contemporary calf with gilt decorations and title on spine. Five raised bands. Red speckled edges. Binding very worn with material losses to spine and spine ends. Joints and hinges cracked. Small paper losses to end papers. (see images). Internally in very good condition. Occasional mild browning and small damp stains, otherwise very clean. Laurentius Heister is considered the founder of scientific surgery in Germany. His “Compendium Anatomicum” was first published in 1717 and became the favoured anatomical handbook of the 18th Century.
