Provenance: From the Library of Sir Alan Francis Brooke, Field Marshal Alanbrooke, 1st Viscount Alanbrooke.

At the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, Brooke, by then a Field-Marshal and a Viscount, held the office of Lord High Constable of England. The office of Lord High Constable of England is, in modern times, only exercised at Coronations. Alanbrooke was thus in command of all troops taking part in the Coronation Ceremonies. He rode in the procession and attended the splendid ritual in Westminster Abbey as one of the great officers of State.

Shell-Mex and B.P. represented the Anglo-Iranian Group of Oil Companies of which Alanbrooke was a board member after the war.
