As well as the attractive exteriors of mills, significant internal details are also illustrated, from Flatford Mill, painted by Constable, to the peat-fired Glendale Mill on the Isle of Skye. The author also traces the history of the watermill from its origin in Neolithic times, through Greek and Roman examples to the development of mills in Britain from the 8th century AD.
