Morton, J.W. 8th (King’s Royal Irish) Hussars Diary of the South African War 1900-1902. Uckfield, Naval & Military Press Ltd., 2009. 14cm x 21.5cm. XV, 160 pages. Original softcover. Excellent condition. Originally published in 1905. The author was a Squadron Sergeant-Major. The diary was written from notes which were made daily when Morton was acting as signalling sergeant to Lieutenant-Colonel P.L. Clowes, who commanded the 8th Hussars during the South African War. The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1693. It saw service for three centuries, before being amalgamated into The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars in 1958.
