A small collection consisting of hand written and typed letters, poems, post cards, pamphlets, newspaper articles, photos etc. 1917 – c.1980. Collection housed in two folders. All items in very good condition. Some paper darkening to some early letters etc.

A substantial collection of poems, letters, postcards exchanged between Hermann Hesse and other members of the Hesse family and Jacob “Köbi” Flach.
Highlights of the collection include four handwritten poems, two handwritten letters and several handwritten or typed postcards from Hermann Hesse to Jacob Flach. In total ten documents are signed by Hermann Hesse with another four carrying his initials.
Jacob “Köbi” Flach (1894 – 1982) was a Swiss Author, Painter, and Marionette Pupetteer (founder of the Ascona Marionette Theatre). Hermann Hesse met Flach for the first time in 1917 while sharing accommodation with him. The two men stayed in touch for many years and visited each other occasionally. Later Flach worked as a private tudor for some of Hesse’s sons.
