First Edition. New York, D.Appleton & Company, 1852. 24 x 15 cm. xvi, 720 pages. With 377 wood engravings in the text. Original brown cloth with blind decorations on boards and gilt title on spine. Very good condition. Corners, spine and boards rubbed and bumped. Some fading to binding and age darkening to edges. Top of front joint started to crack. Hinges starting to crack. Binding a little shaky, but holding. One corner of front free end paper cut. Internally some mild foxing and age darkening. Water staining to first 100 pages, otherwise internally clean. Nicely illustrated throughout. A very interesting book.
