Hayes, Richard. Irish Swordsmen of France. – Signed Association Copy. With a Foreword by Rev. Patrick Browne, M.A., D.Sc. First Edition. Dublin, M.H. Gill and Son, 1934. 21 x 13.5 cm. xix, 307 pages. With a coloured frontispiece and seven additional Plates, of which one is folding. As called for. Original blue cloth with gilt title on spine. In original decorated dust jacket, now inside archival jacket. Very good in good dust jacket. Minor shelf wear, rubbing and bumping. Edges and end papers age darkened and mildly foxed. Inscribed and signed by Richard Hayes to W.J. Williams (‘who helped to make this book’). Prof. W.J. Williams is also mentioned in the Acknowledgement. Tipped in newspaper review, which was written by W.J. Williams (‘W.J.W.’) on the release of the book in 1934. Dust jacket with some edge wear and minor paper losses to spine ends. Back of dust jacket was used by a child for writing exercises in pencil and orange pen (see images). Overall a very nice association copy, signed by Richard Hayes.

W.J. Williams was Professor for Education at University College Dublin and father to Thomas Desmond Williams, Irish Academic and Professor for Modern History at UCD.
